The Best Podcasts for Women to Boost your Mood and Productivity

July 19, 2018

Podcasts that will make you happy and more productive!

You all… life is hard.  Motherhood is even harder.  Trying to have a happy and productive life and be a mother… well that is the ultimate struggle.  I work from home which means there is no “getting away” or boundaries from home and work life.  Sometimes it can just be downright isolating and depressing being at home all the time.  And then trying to stay motivated to work?!  Goodness, it is tough!

During the Fall of 2017, I found myself drowning in life and work. (You can read more about this here).  It had now been five years of working from home and owning my own business.  I was exhausted and in a rut.  I needed to figure out how to make a more positive work environment at home and be more productive with the work time I had.  I needed to bring more joy, connection, and laughter to my day!  I needed something in my day to “fill my cup” and replenish me!

My sister had introduced me to the world of Podcasts through our love of true crime (A podcast called My Favorite Murder which is listed below).  I loved listening to it so much while I edited photographs for clients that I decided to search for some “mom” and “mom boss” podcasts to listen to as well.  I was OVERWHELMED by the number of shows and episodes that came up.  I was instantly hooked and devoured every word I could!  I listened to a few very influential ones that motivated me to switch up how we do  life as a family, our health, our future, and prompted me to follow my heart and start this blog!

There is so much power in listening to positive words!  While I used to listen to re-runs of Law and Order SVU during the day, I was now filling that space with words of encouragement, life tips, humor, etc.!  These podcasts have taught me valuable tips on balancing life and work, parenting hacks, built my faith, etc.  So many things I would have missed if I would have had the tv on all day. Listening to podcasts boosts my mood and has brought so much happiness to my day!  They leave me motivated and make me much more productive! Mommas, no matter what you are going through, lacking, or dreaming of, there is podcast episode out there to help you get to the next place!  Storytelling is in our DNA, and that is what podcasts are!  Other people are telling their stories to encourage and bring hope to those listening!

These are the best podcasts for women to make us happy and productive!

Here are a few of the most powerful podcasts that make me happy and more productive!

Summer Momiform Must Haves

June 29, 2018

Momiform (as defined by me) – a comfortable and versatile look, that you can feel confident and pretty in yet can still chase your little ones while wearing it.  The ultimate momiform can seamlessly transfer from bed to day and back to bed again.

As I start to clean out my closet to create a capsule wardrobe, I was inspired to write this post.  There are a handful of pieces that jumped out as my favorite!  Clothes that all summer long I have worn over and over again!  Pieces that I want to share with all of my friends and readers because I love them so much!!! These items have become my momiform!!!  They are comfortable, a step above PJ’s, and allow me to keep up with my kids!  Here I am sharing my top summer momiform must haves!!!

 1. The most amazing athleisure capris ever!!!

Let me tell you about my new legging love affair!  I received my first piece of Lululemon clothing for Mother’s Day this year.  I had never purchased anything from them before because I thought leggings are leggings and there is no reason to break the bank when you can buy a more inexpensive pair somewhere else.  I opened the bag kind of annoyed my husband had spent so much when I have 40 black pairs of workout capris in my drawer.  I went and tried them on and immediately was smitten!!!  Seriously they were the most amazing thing I had ever put on!  I immediately ordered two more pairs and have hardly worn anything else since.  As I clean out my dresser, I am going to get rid of my massive collection of athleisure capris/leggings and just keep my three Lululemon pairs.  I have no desire to wear anything but these!  I am partial to the Align crop.  In my opinion, they are the best and feel like butter. You literally feel like you aren’t wearing anything. Haha!  My very favorite momiform is my Lulu leggings paired with my R&R tanks from www.shopatstash.com.  This “SLAY at home mom” tank is perfection!!!!

You can find my pants here.

“Slay at home mom” tank here. (True to size. I am wearing a small).

2. Jumpsuits and Rompers that make you feel like you are wearing your pj’s!

If I am not wearing my Lulu capris and a tee, then I am most likely in a romper or jumpsuit!  As a mom and 30-something-year-old, finding a romper in an appropriate length can be tricky!  I LOVE this one from Gray Monroe. She doesn’t carry it anymore, but I found the same one here.  It is my very favorite staple and can throw it on with flip-flops and cute earrings and call it an outfit!

You can find the black romper here. (runs true to size.  I am wearing a small)

You can find the earrings here.

Gold slides are here and another similar pair here.

Another favorite that I am going to live in this summer is this one from Target!  I just bought it last week, and I am obsessed!  It is the perfect length, and I love anything with a drawstring to give me shape!

You can find the romper here.  (it runs true to size.  I bought a small.)

The gold slides here and here.

The cheetah print earrings here.

I also can’t get enough of black jumpsuits!  They are so comfortable, and with the right shoes and accessories you can dress them up or down!  This one from Mindy Mae’s Market is my very favorite right now. I also have my favorite sunglasses and cross-body purse on in this photo.  This crossbody is from Nordstrom and so affordable! I love it so much that after I wore out my last one, I bought another one.   It is the very best mom purse because you can fit a ton in it but it is not huge and bulky and in the way when you are on the go with kids!  I get tons of compliments on my Quay sunglasses!  They are cute but don’t cost an arm and a leg.  I am also going to link a few of my other favorites black jumpsuits that I have and love!

You can find this jumpsuit pictured here.

My other two favorite black jumpsuits are here and this one here that I have in three different colors!

My crossbody purse is here.

My sunglasses are here.

My gold slides are here. (these are my go to when I need to look a step above my tennis shoes!)

3.  The softest tanks to help you beat the heat!  (and beat those mom hormones hahaha)

I am definitely a tank and t-shirt snob.  I refuse to wear or purchase anything other than the absolute softest and best fitting.  The days of sandpaper cheap college tee’s that swallow you whole are long gone!  I currently have three brands that are my favorite!  I have rotated them out all summer long. The first one is the R&R brand tanks from Stash Boutique!  I tried one on and instantly bought three.  Not only are the sayings so cute but they fit perfect and are so incredibly soft!

You can find all the amazing R&R tanks here.

You can find my skort here.

You can find my sunglasses here.

My very favorite water bottle EVER here.

My favorite cross body purse here.

My second favorite Tank is the GapFit open back tanks!!! My go to on super hot days!  The open back ties at the bottom to allow a breeze to flow through but not to reveal too much. 🙂 I have one in every color and swear by them!!! I could not survive summer without them!!!

You can find the tank here.

You can find the skort here.

You can find the sunglasses here

You can find my pineapple glass here.

You can find my earrings here.

4. Athleisure skorts!!!

Athleisure skorts have become my new best friend!  You get the “coolness” of shorts without all the picking, tugging, and pulling!  (I know you all get me) They also help with chafing (yes something I hadn’t experienced until after having three kids) because of the biker short type shorts that are underneath!  Not to mention they are just cuter and make you look like you just had a killer tennis workout!  I have two styles that I absolutely love!

You can find my skort here.

You can find my TUL tank here.

You can find my pink blush tennis shoes here.

You can find this skort here.

You can find my tie back tank here.

5.  The holy grail of momiforms!!!  A black maxi dress!

I have bought the same strapless black maxi dress three different times over the years in multiple sizes. It has gotten me through pregnancies, post-baby mom belly, breastfeeding, etc.  It is the easiest to throw on and look like you tried!  I love how I can throw it on with a messy bun and flip flops or dress it up with a necklace and earrings! This particular style that is fitted at the top and has pockets is my absolute favorite thing in my closet!

You can find the maxi dress here.

You can find my necklace here.

5 Inspirational Audiobooks that changed my life

June 20, 2018

I felt like I needed to start here.  This is so much a part of my story and why I am in the place that I am today.  I truly believe a few inspirational audiobooks have changed my life forever!  They got me off of a crazy/stressful/anxious/ nonstop hampster wheel and in the happiest place I have ever been!  They have changed my life in such a way that I wanted this to be the very first blog post on my new blog!  I want to shout it from the rooftops to help inspire other women!!!  Especially mommas who are deep in the trenches of motherhood!

So why Audiobooks? I have found audio to be the best avenue for me! I haven’t had the time in seven years to sit and finish reading a book.  I used to be an avid reader and there was this empty hole that was missing that connection with a book! However, that all changed when I found Audible!  (I LOVE Audible) I can fill the air with inspiring words while I am in the car, working on my computer, or doing chores around the house!  I also LOVE hearing the words straight from the author’s mouth! (I am partial to books read by the author).

Let me take you back to last fall.  I am not going to get into all the nitty gritty details yet (that is saved for another post) but it was one of the most stressful seasons of life that I have ever had!  I felt attacked by Satan.  I remember praying “God something has to give.  What am I doing wrong?  Why are our lives nonstop craziness? This is not how I want us to live our lives.  I feel like there just isn’t enough hours in the day and I am constantly disappointing everyone.  God how do we change this?”  I was so tired.  I was so defeated.  I went to bed every single night feeling like I was drowning.

A few days before Thanksgiving of last year, I saw someone post about Emily Ley’s A Simplified Life.  I was going to be spending quite a bit of time in the car and at my computer in the coming weeks so I got an Audible account and purchased the book.  I remember I was on my way to shoot a newborn session when I played the first words of the book in my car.

If I know anything about life, it’s this: it doesn’t have to be so complicated.  I know what it feels like to be in the absolute thick ot it – with little ones clamoring for attention, an inbox forever overflowing, a house brimming with clutter, laundry that never seems to end, doubt and anxiety pumping through my veins.  I know what it feels like to be completely and totally overwhelmed. ” Emily Ley, A Simplified Life

I started sobbing.  Not just a regular cry, but Ugly “God you sent this to me didn’t you” crying!  She had just described every ounce of my life and she wrote a book on how to overcome it!  I was obsessed.  I couldn’t listen to it fast enough. I devoured every single word.  I told everyone I knew about it!  Things began to change. All of the positive words, tips on self-improvement, and encouragement was permeating into every ounce of my life! The dark cloud was lifting.  I saw hope.  I started to see what a difference listening to positive words was doing for my mood and my life!  I started filling my day with uplifting audio and turned off the “noise” of the tv!  I was hooked!!!

Seven months later, I continue to seek out encouraging audiobooks but I will always be able to credit these five books for changing everything!

The five inspirational Audiobooks that changed my life are:

1.A Simplified Life by Emily Ley

Why I recommend it: First of all, even if you bought the paperback, I would HIGHLY recommend the audio version because Emily reads it herself!  She gives tactical tools and tips on how to simplify every area of your life!  I found myself nodding and saying “YES” through the entire book!!!  I learned that so much of my stress and exhaustion was that we were making our lives too complicated!  I reference it daily and have been applying everything I learned from her book to our home, lives, and to my work!  I will forever be thankful that God put that book in my path when he did.  I can truly say that book was the start of so much happiness, contentment, and hope!!!  And why seven months later, I am in this very spot!!!

Favorite Quote: “If your brain is on overload, constantly flipping through your to-do list, contantly comparing yourself to others, constantly worrying about when the next shoe is going to drop, you cannot fit happiness, joy, and calm in there.” A Simplified Life, by Emily Ley

2. Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

Why I recommend it: This is one of those books that EVERYONE needs to read!!!  Rachel is an amazing lady with the most incredible life story!!! She inspired me to get off the struggle bus and go after life!  Rachel talks about all the lessons she has learned in life and times where she felt overwhelmed and ready to give up!  She talks about how she overcame them and inspires everyone to go after your dreams and pursue your passions!  You finish the book feeling like your best friend just gave you the biggest pep talk ever!!! You will not want this book to end!

Favorite Quote:“What if the hard stuff, the amazing stuff, the love, the joy, the hope, the fear, the weird stuff, the funny stuff, the stuff that takes you so low you’re lying on the floor crying and thinking, How did I get here? . . . What if none of it is happening to you? What if all of it is happening for you?” Rachel Hollis, Girl Wash Your Face

3.  The Power of Vulnerability by Brene Brown

Why I recommend it:  Goodness where do I even begin with this one!  If you don’t know who Brene brown is get on youtube and search her and devour every single second of her!!!  Talk about a woman who is making a mark in this world!!!  She teaches that vulnerability is the birthplace of joy, belonging, creativity, authenticity and love!  That through being vulnerable we can open ourselves up to experienceines that bring purpose and meaning to our lives!  This blog makes me feel vulnerable.  I could sit back and stay in the safe zone and just wish I had the courage to write a blog or put myself out there and allow God to let some amazing things happen through sharing my life and experiences!  This book was so eye opening and inspiring!!!

Favorite Quote: “Because when we work from a place, I believe, that says, “I’m enough” … then we stop screaming and start listening, we’re kinder and gentler to the people around us, and we’re kinder and gentler to ourselves.” – Brene Brown

4.  Hello Mornings by Kat Lee

Why I recommend it: Kat has completely changed the way I start my day!  Her book made me implement powerful morning routines that shape the rest of my day!  I wake up each day excited and ready to take on the world! (yes its ok if you want to slap me! haha! I promise it wasn’t always this way.)  She gives very simple guidlines to how you can begin each morning in a positive light!

Favorite Quote: How we start shapes our journey and outlines our lives and who we start with makes all the difference! – Kat Lee, Hello Mornings

5.  Present over Perfect by Shauna Niequist

Why I recommend it:  This book was like a deep breath of fresh air!!!  Everything my soul and heart have been feeling and thinking!  So much affirmation that there is a different way to live!  She talks about how to live a rich and meaningful life in this messy fast paced world!  It is a must read for every momma looking to slow down and savor the moments!!!

Favorite Quote:“I fake-rested instead of real-rested, and then I found that I was real-tired. It feels ludicrous to be a grown woman, a mother, still learning how to rest. But here I am, baby-stepping to learn something kids know intuitively. Part of being an adult is taking responsibility for resting your body and your soul. And part of being an adult is learning to meet your own needs, because when it comes down to it, with a few exceptions, no one else is going to do it for you.” Shauna Niequist, Present Over Perfect

Mommas, if you are in a dark place, if you are drowning, start filling your heart and brain with positive and encouraging words!  Then slowly, inch by inch, you will find the way back to YOU!  We can be moms and still have our own identity!!!  Keep chasing your dreams! – Amanda 🙂
